The pink ladies have sung


Apple picking on the Cecilia's farm

They say that the show ain’t over till the proverbial ladies have sung, and in our case that is Granny Smith and the Pink Ladies. These two apple varieties are the last ones of the season that we pick in early autumn. Pink Lady apples is a variety that needs cool night temperatures to bring out their trademark colour. The few early cold fronts that passed the Cape late summer provided just that and they were beautiful!


After the terrible hail damage that we suffered on New Years Day 2011 decimating a large proportion of the 2011 harvest, the 2012 harvest was a great one. Actually it was the largest yield and best quality that we have seen in many years on Koelfontein. We were indeed incredibly blessed. Hats off!



A new arrival

I realize that we sometimes forget to tell you about some of the things happening here on Koelfontein simply because we have become so used to the seasonal rhythm of this Boland farm. Such an event is the arrival, like clockwork, of our newborn lambs in autumn and another one the calving season soon thereafter.
